My Poor Sweet Roscoe

***Click here to light a candle for our sweet, little Roscoe.***

"As long we we can love each other, and remember the feeling of love we had, we can die without ever really going away. All the love you created is still there. All the memories are still there. You live on-in the hearts of everyone you have touched and nurtured while you were here".

-Morris S. Schwartz: Tuesdays With Morrie

Just when I think that I can't cry any more, an entire new flood of tears come. I am swallowed by a grief so deep, that I feel my heart is caving in. Early this morning our beloved Roscoe went over the rainbow bridge. He took a sudden turn for the worse late last night. At 4am we rushed him to the closest 24 hour clinic located near Bologna. The vet worked with Roscoe for hours, doing everything in his power to save our sweet baby. Roscoe's system seemed to be shutting down. Three times he quit breathing on his own and three times he was intubated and assisted with his breathing. Three times he came back to us. The vet pushed onward telling us that Roscoe's heart was very strong that he was putting up a good fight. He was convinced that if we could just get Roscoe stabilized, that there would be hope for treatment.

The fourth time sweet Roscoe stopped breathing, I wanted to scream "STOP IT!" as the vet intubated him for the fourth time. I didn't want to be the one to give up, but I didn't want Roscoe to go through anymore. Somehow that sweet little cat saved me having to do it. Before I could utter the words his little heart gave up and death came to carry him gently over the bridge.

We lovingly placed Roscoe in a beautiful wicker basket. He was wrapped in his favorite blanket and surround by photos of his family. We also placed in a few of his favorite toys, including a catnip sack his Grandma had given him and a red mouse from his friend Asta; red was Roscoe's color. We secured the basket and placed a photo of Rosoce on the top, along with his name and a poem. He sleeps now under the beautiful plum tree in our yard, near a fragrant lavender bush.

I don't know if I will continue this blog. There has never been an Opus without a Rosoce; going on without Roz seems wrong. To all of you who have sent along your prayers and well wishes, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I promise to respond to each and every one of you, but for now I will take some time off to grieve and snuggle with Opus.

Roscoe will live on forever in the hearts and minds of those lives he touched....

Cyn, Opus and family,

We are so sorry to hear of Roscoes passing. Of course he was not "just a cat". Roscoe was a treasured part of your family. Anything that lives, breathes, loves and is loved is a beautiful soul, worthy of our love, our devotion and of the grief we feel when the time comes to say goodbye.
I find it unbelievable that anyone could be so heartless as to say that to you.

Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with you. Take all the time you need to grieve, it's important to grieve in your own time and in your own way.
We hope you will consider continuing the blog, in time we are sure it will become a beautiful tribute and you will be able to take comfort in the memories each post invokes, to carry on would do your heart good. If you do choose to stop no-one will judge you, we will still all be here if you need a friend.

Run free at the bridge sweet Roscoe, each step lightened with your angel wings.

What a beautiful poem and such wonderful words about our sweet Roscoe. His little life was cut way too short and I cannot think his name without extreme sorrow in my heart. The mom and dad of the house grieve along with your family and she has the tears flowing down her cheeks. Roscoe was not only just a sweet kitty, a friend but he is family.
I too pitty the stupid ones that think that a cat is just a cat or a dog is just a dog, how much in life they have missed. I know Roscoe loved you unconditionally as you loved him and always will. You took such good care of him and there was nothing else you could have done differently. Some things are just our of our hands and paws.
With deep sorrow, as I will miss my sweet friend, I will always keep his memory close to me. Oh what fun we all have had and some day we will all be together again. When we meet again we will no longer be ill.
I am so sorry for you and your family. I hope Opus will recover quickly from not having is brother around. I know they were always looked out for each other and were never far from the other one.
Please know that my prayers are still coming for you all as you go through this oh so difficult terrible time.
My life is so much better having Roscoe and Opus in it, along with the humans.
Love to all of you from across the miles.

I am so very sorry to hear about Roscoe and I reall can understand your pain and what you may be feeling.

My beloved Lilac Point Siamese Cat, Henry, died in 2004 (age almost 20 years) and I am still grieving 4 years later. I can remember all too well a time when I thought the tears would never stop. I had to teach myself coping mechanisms so that I could control my desire to cry in public or at work.

My heart aches for you as I know the pain you must now go through. Emotional pain is every bit as bad, if not worse than physical pain.

I will pray for your peace, and dear little Roscoe and also Opus.

In your sadness, remember that this stranger cares ...

Milo is my new kitten - he is now almost 20 weeks old and I adore him. He could never replace Henry, nor would I ever put that burden upon him. But he has filled an empty corner of my heart that needed a warm fluffy little cat to love again. In many ways Henry gave me the gift of Milo - because he left such a hole in my life - that after the long grieving it was inevitable that I would want to share my home with another wonderful cat.

Love from Milo's Mom. And Milo sends his love too.

I am so very sorry. That sounds so inadequate, but words tend to fail me at times like this. I know how much you loved Roscoe and how much he loved you. The "just a cat" people are to be pitied for the shallowness of their lives and their ignorance. I am sending lots of {{{HUGS}}} to all of you, Cyndi, Opus and Danilo.

So sorry to hear about Roscoe. Losing our dear friends is a pain so deep that we feel we will never smile again. But he is part of you and always will be with you.

Dearest Cyn and Opus and The Italian...there is a tiny kitten you might want to meet on my blog today that doesn't have a name yet. I think Roscoe sent it to us...

We are so sorry to hear about Roscoe going to the bridge. He seemed like a sweet cat and was obviously a well loved member of the family. Only time will heal what God took back. You'll never get over it, you will just accept it and treasure his memory.

Big {{hugs}} and purrs of comfort.

We visit your blog for the first time on such a sad occasion. We knew of Roscoe from our mutual friends Asta and Momo & Pinot. We can't begin to tell you how sorry we are for your loss.

You are in our thoughts.

Oh, we are so sorry. We were hopeful when Roscoe seemed to be getting better. Sometimes it is just not to be.

Be assured, in this group "just a cat" is high praise, indeed.

Hi Cyndi,
We are sorry to hear that you lost your sweet boy to the bridge. We know though that he sure was a lucky kitty to be surrounded by your love. We also know that your heart will heal, slowly and it will always carry a Roscoe shaped scar.

Sending you hugs across the ocean.

I was lost in words knowing about Roscoe's passing away. Until now I still could not digest the sad news. I just wish I could just turn back the clock and pause it at those happy moments we had earlier this year. Our deepest condolences Cyndi... I hope time will mend that broken heart of yours.

Hugs and prayers...

Dear sweet little Roscoe, how we will miss you. You left too soon, but of course we would never be ready for you to leave.
I am so glad that we got to see you this summer and I have so many wonderful photos of you and Opus. I know someday you will be waiting for us and when we meet we will forever be free of life's illnesses and pain.
I will help Opus and your folks through this difficult time. We will never be the same person we were before you left but we are better ones for knowing, loving you, and having you be in our family.
Rest well little one and tell all up there that we love and miss that we will someday be together.
Love,
Gma & Gpa

Dear Cyndi, we know your pain. You must take the time to grieve and just know that you are not alone.
Remember we lost Caesar in January.
It still hurts, we still think of him, could not imagine life going on with out him... could not accept this new life with out him. Mom does not cry anymore but the love is still strong.
